Designing With Flowers: A three day workshop/retreat in the wilds of North Georgia

Knitch

What could be better than a weekend of knitting? Pack up your needles and travel to the Knitch Knitting Cabin in North Georgia for a weekend of exploration in the design and use of felted (or non-felted) flowers.

If you love flowers and want to find new ways of incorporating flowers into all sorts of designs, this is the workshop for you. Pick a bouquet of Noni flowers and start knitting! The bulk of this workshop/retreat will be focused on designing garments, bags, wraps, throws, hats (or whatever else suits your fancy) that function as canvases for flowers. We'll walk the forest in search of inspiration for our designs and figure out how to knit the flowers we see. What a treat to have a beautiful setting, great food, lots of time to knit, and a guide through the wonderful world of flowers and design. Please note, although this is a design driven workshop, you need not be a designer to attend. You need only to be able to knit, purl, increase and decrease with confidence. A sense of wonder and adventure, a need to get off the map and challenge yourself and a desire to be inspired are important skills for this exciting workshop.

Knitch will have a full traveling shop at the retreat and they will even take special orders and bring them to you personally, so no worries about bringing supplies. All you really need to bring are your ideas!

"Pick the bag you love but are scared to knit. . . " is how Nora begins this workshop. Participants choose any Noni bag as the project for this class, purchase materials for, and begin the bag during the first meeting. The second meeting will focus on finishing touches, the felting process, embellishment, and making a bag your own unique statement using Noni flowers and other embellishments (including your own designs). The third meeting is concerned primarily with finishing. Students bring damp bags to class and spend the entire meeting in hands-on finishing: Nora offers all the insider tips and tricks to make every bag look as Noni as the bags in the pictures on the front of the patterns.

Participants need to know how to knit and purl, work in the round, and increase and decrease with impunity. If you wish to work on a project that includes intarsia or fair isle color work, please acquaint yourselves with these techniques as a prerequisite to the workshop.
